The increasing number of voters of color will have a critical impact on how Pennsylvania shapes or even determines the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. One of the rising groups within this potential voting bloc are newly naturalized citizens, almost 60% of whom are originally from Asian and Pacific Island and Latin American countries and over a quarter of whom are originally from African, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean countries. Newly naturalized citizens in Pennsylvania from 2014 to 2018 are alone almost double the margin of victory during the 2016 presidential election and the number of naturalized citizens from 2014 to 2020 are estimated to almost triple that margin.
